Welcome to Deschutes Motel

Deschutes Motel offers a charming and practical lodging option nestled in the heart of Maupin, Oregon. With a solid rating of 4.3, this vintage motel dating back to the 1950s has been thoughtfully updated under new management, striking a balance between nostalgia and modern comfort. Its location at 616 Mill St provides easy access to key attractions like Maupin City Park and White River Falls State Park, making it an ideal base for outdoor enthusiasts and rafters.

The motel’s rooms reflect a clean and well-maintained environment. Guests often highlight the generous space of the king suites, which pleasantly surprise with their size despite the modest exterior. Families appreciate the thoughtful layout—separate sleeping areas featuring twin beds and queen beds—with conveniences such as a fridge, microwave, and coffee maker enhancing the overall experience. The quiet nature of the accommodations allows for a restful night, crucial after a day filled with rafting or exploring the surrounding natural beauty.

Service here shines through the attentive and friendly staff, with special mentions to the management team for going above and beyond. The warm professionalism of staff members like Aaron and Lola contributes significantly to guests’ positive experiences, reinforcing Deschutes Motel as a welcoming retreat.

There are some spatial limitations in the bathrooms, especially with the compact shower setups and confined toilet areas, which may challenge taller individuals or those seeking more room to move. WiFi connectivity can be inconsistent, and occasional maintenance issues like air conditioning malfunctions have been noted, yet these do little to overshadow the motel’s many strengths.

Ultimately, Deschutes Motel stands out for its quiet charm, practical amenities, and proximity to adventure. It offers a simple yet sincere lodging experience where visitors feel cared for and well positioned to enjoy the rugged Oregon outdoors. For travelers prioritizing convenience, friendliness, and a touch of history, Deschutes Motel remains a reliable and inviting choice on the Dalles-California Highway corridor.

We stayed in a king suite and the room was larger than we thought it would be based on the outside. The employees are friendly. The bathroom is very tiny and you can't really sit on the toilet without closing the door. There isn't enough space. Also, I am 5'4" and the shower head was too low for me to shower. My 6'2" husband had a heck of a time with it. Clean place and very handy to get to a rafting place. You will need to drive to meals though.

We took a chance on this motel in spite of reviews that were all over the place. This was a perfect place for our family of 4 to stay for one night before a rafting trip. The room was clean. We appreciated our kids had two twin beds and there was a door separating those beds from the queen. Room had a fridge, microwave and coffee maker. Wi-Fi was spotty so Tv didn’t work most of the time. This didn’t matter as we were barely there. Check in was smooth and we were able to check in early. Gentleman at desk went out of his way to recommend a great place for dinner (Riverside) and even printed a map to help us find a fun place along the river to swim. If you are fussy or picky about an occasional bug in the room or some mildew in the shower caulking this place is not for you. But for a decent short stay, this place was great and considerably less expensive than other places in the area.

Have stayed at this motel multiple times since they have been under new management. The rooms are very quiet and clean. I have noticed the property is very well maintained. Our stay was peaceful and relaxing. Lola and Aaron were very helpful and professional when checking in. Always my number one go to place to stay when visiting Maupin. The rates are great and very convenient for rafting or visiting downtown Maupin.

Great cute little place to stop off for a night or two. Very friendly people, recently updated rooms, and near the highway so it's super easy to get to. Our air conditioners didn't work which was a bummer but the weather was nice so it didn't bug us too much.
